Visitors and New Members

Dome Valley Gun Club is newly formed club with an outdoor 25M range, unique in being one of only few clubs in Auckland with the ability to shoot any type of legal handgun as well as Rifle.

We shoot all of the common disciplines including ISSF, Service Pistol, HMS, NRA Action, and IPSC matches.  We also offer Cowboy Action Shooting and Clay Bird trap facilities.

We shoot a reasonably active calendar of all disciplines together with informal practice days and the occasional club working bees included. Refer to the Events Calendar for a view of upcoming matches and events.

The normal club shooting days are the 1st, 3rd plus 5th (if any) Sunday of the month . Note: Organised Guests/Visitors must pre-arrange with the club secretary  before meeting at the Dome Valley Café at the specified time. You will then be escorted into the Forest by the Duty Range Officer. Please do not arrive late or you will note be able to access the forest.

Note: you must have a 1kg or greater fire extinguisher in your vehicle to access the forest.

In addition, Club Members enjoy the free use of the range at any time on weekends, Black Powder firearms are permitted during the non-fire risk seasons.

Tracer ammunition is not permitted at any time!!!

As a New Zealand Pistol Association affiliated club, we offer the individual the opportunity to undertake the steps to obtain a B (pistol) category endorsements to your current Firearms License.

This is a comprehensive process, and the facilities at the club allow us to best educate and grade your performance on your path to these qualifications.

Our main purpose and goal is to educate, train, promote and develop the safe and responsible use of pistols and all other types of firearms within the Auckland and North area, by making available to club members a high standard of facilities to enjoy, learn and actively participate in all shooting disciplines.  Although our main focus is on pistol shooting, we often shoot rifles and shotguns at our range as well.

We welcome guests of members and visitor from other clubs to come up to the range on any normal shooting day and try your hand at pistol shooting. Guests Visitors may shoot up to 3 times at the range before being required to join the club (Depending upon vacancies). Range fees ($20) for visitors covers the entire day (excluding ammunition that you must provide).

Visitors to the range can participate in precision .22 caliber target pistol shooting under the direct supervision of a qualified Range Officer. Although the club is open to Junior members to begin learning and gaining experience with firearms, the minimum age for a Firearms License is 16 years and you will generally apply for a pistol license at around 18 years of age.

Why not give it a try – you will be pleasantly surprised how easy this sport can be for anyone. Should you or your group wish to experience pistol or rifle shooting at our range, contact our Secretary – details are on the Contacts page.
